On the afternoon of June 5, 2015, a gathering aimed at promoting investment in the United States (or the Investment in America Gathering for short), the first of its kind, was successfully held at the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel. Making use of the mature platform on which the 6th International Infrastructure Investment & Construction Forum took place, the Investment in America Gathering was organized under the auspices of China International Contractors Association with the assistance of the Chinese Secretariat under the Task Force on Cooperation between Chinese Provinces and Texas, an organization operating under the Mechanism for Cooperation between Chinese Provinces and American States. Many prominent figures were invited as special guests to the meeting to give a speech, including Scott Shaw, a commercial counselor in the Department of Commerce at the American Consulate General in Hong Kong; Alexander Borisoff, a partner in Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy; Zhang Xiaofang, a partner in the Global China Practice of KPMG who serves as a director of United States operations; Michael Bergen, vice executive president of Industrial Info Resources, Inc. of the United States; Huang Zhun, Sales Manager for Global Parts and Components Operations of Honghua Group in Sichuan, China; and Li Zheng, a director of international business for Yates Construction of the United States. Also among those who attended the meeting were officials from commerce authorities and representatives in business circles from Jiangsu, Shandong, Fujian, and Sichuan, which are among the Chinese provinces and municipalities involved in the Task Force on Cooperation between Chinese Provinces and Texas.
To and with all the others who attended the meeting, the special guests each gave a brief analysis of and shared their experience in a wide range of areas, including the investment environment of the United States and the preferential treatment investors will receive there; the laws and regulations to consider before starting an investment project in the United States; the investment environment of Texas; the general situation of the energy industry of Texas; cases of a Chinese business making a success of its investment project in the United States; cases of cooperation between Chinese and American businesses. In doing so, the special guests provided a platform on which all those who attended the meeting could learn from and communicate with each other on the subject of making investment in the United States, thereby giving useful, practical help to various provinces and municipalities and businesses in their efforts to make investment in the United States.
The first Investment in America Gathering turned out to be a huge success, thereby giving a big boost to future investment and other cooperation-centric projects directed at the United States and providing a solid foundation for the organization of various related activities.
