On that day, the opening ceremony was held for 10 Pakistan students fully funded by CRBC who will participate in the two-year post-graduate education program of transport engineering in SEU.
Among the attendees were SEU President Zhang Guangjun, CRBC Chairman Lu Shan, Arshad Ali- Executive Director of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Siraj Ahmad Khan- the Counselor of Pakistan in China, as well as the leaders from Department of International Cooperation of National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China (NDRC).
With the constantly deepening of the “Belt and Road” Initiative and construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the demands of countries along the Belt & Road and corridor for high-end technical and management talents increase continuously. As an important participant and implementer of the “Belt and Road” Initiative, CRBC has funded a total of 292 students from Kenya, the Republic of Congo, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Togo and other countries to further their study in China as of the first half of 2017. With the great support from the education ministries of Pakistan and China, as well as NDRC, CRBC has launched the “Inheritance of China-Pakistan Friendship, Hundred-personnel Sponsorship Program”, and it will fully fund 100 in-service staff, technicians and excellent outstanding graduates recommended by the Federal Government of Pakistan and various provincial governments to participate in the two-year post-graduate education program of transport engineering in SEU under the cooperation agreement signed by CRBC and SEU within 5 years, in a bid to provide support to the “Belt and Road” Initiative. The Program is aimed to cultivate high-end talents in transport engineering for Pakistan.
SEU President Zhang Guangjun noted that the cooperation agreement signed with CRBC not only demonstrates a new platform and start point for the cooperation between university and enterprise, but also a new initiative proposed by China and Pakistan in higher education, and a vivid model for the proactive response of Chinese universities in practicing the “Belt and Road” Initiative and cooperating with the enterprise for win-win development.

CRBC Chairman Lu Shan noted that China and Pakistan have established long-standing friendship, and that CRBC attaches great importance to the exchange and communication between the people of two countries while devotes itself to the construction of infrastructure for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. In the 1960s, Foreign Aid Office of the Ministry of Communications of China, CRBC’s predecessor, took the lead to construct Karakorum Highway, the only land passage between China and Pakistan, and over 700 Chinese and Pakistan technicians devoted their lives during construction. Half a century later, CRBC undertakes the Phase I and Phase II of Karakorum Highway Reconstruction and Extension Project. During construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, CRBC always adhered to the principle of “training local talents” to relief local employment pressure and accelerate the technical transfer, and donated a total of over USD 1 million in Pakistan for disaster relief and improvement of people’s livelihood. Phase I of Karakorum Highway Reconstruction Project offers over 15,000 posts for Pakistan.
